Peace of Mind for Young Adults.

A simple Power of Attorney planning package for young adults (age 18-25).

Turning 18 is a big milestone. It also changes who can help with finances, communicate with a school, access medical information, or step in during an emergency.

Power of Attorney planning helps young adults clearly name a trusted individual to rely on when needed most - whether that’s a parent, sibling, partner, close friend, or chosen family member.

Planning so the right people can help if life gets complicated.

The choice of a lawyer is an important decision and should not be based solely on advertisements.

WHY IT MATTERS

Once they turn 18, support is not automatic.

Parents and loved ones are often surprised to learn that turning 18 changes what they can do in an emergency. Hospitals, banks, and schools may not be able to share information or accept instructions without the right documents in place.

Power of Attorney Planning gives young adults a way to say:

"If I need help, this is who I trust."

WHO IT'S FOR

Whether you're heading off to college, renting your first apartment, starting work, serving in the military, or planning a year abroad - these documents can travel with you.  Our Young Adult Power of Attorney Planning options are designed for young adults with busy schedules.

> College students

> Recent high school grads

> Young adults living away from home

> Young adults starting work, travel, or military service

> Young adults with blended families or nontraditional support systems

> Any young adult who wants trusted people to have a clear path to help in an emergency

The young adult is always the client.

This is the first key step to ensuring a plan actually works.

Because the young adult is the client, we will always spend part of the planning meeting with them privately. This protects their voice, their privacy, and their choices.

Parents and supporters can help coordinate, choose plan options, pay, and be as involved as the young adult wishes, but the choices always belong to the young adult.

FOR PARENTS & SUPPORTERS

YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS.

We know many parents are the ones who first think of these documents. Our planning process makes room for parents and supporters to help coordinate, participate, and pay when the young adult agrees.

But this planning belongs to the young adult. That means they choose who can help, what access is shared, and who receives copies.

Allowing the young adult in your life design their own plan is the first step to your own peace of mind.

A simple process with clear planning milestones.

1. Intake

After you submit a booking request, the young adult is emailed a short intake form.

We encourage parents and supporters allow the young adult to complete this form on their own.

2. Education

After intake, we provide written materials and short educational videos for the young adult client, parents, and supporters to prepare for your planning meeting.

We want our clients to come to their meeting informed and prepared to confidently design a plan to meet their needs.

3. Planning

Christina meets with the young adult client via video conference to review plan options and design their plan. Parents or supporters may join part of the conversation if the young adult consents to their involvement.

To make the most of this meeting, we strongly encourage you to review the educational materials provided.

4. Drafting

Plans take time!

We require at least 7 days between your planning meeting and your signing to ensure we can prepare your plan documents with the care and attention they deserve.

5. Signing

Christina meets with the young adult in-person (or via video conference for self-conducted signings) to review final plan documents.

For in-person signings, documents are executed before a Notary Public and two witnesses.

Post-signing, Christina will meet with parents and supporters if the young adult client consents to review key provisions and instructions.

6. Peace of Mind

You leave with your original, fully executed plan, paper copies, and instructions to access PDF copies.

Guidance for proper storage and practical instructions for how to share these documents with the right people is provided.

Ensure Your Plan Works

A plan is not effective unless properly executed.

Without a Notary Public and two independent witnesses attending your signing, your Power of Attorney plan is nothing more than a wish list. We make sure your plan is legally executed so your wishes are honored when needed most.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at contact@sclawstl.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The young adult is the client. Parents and supporters can help coordinate or pay, but the choices belong to the young adult.

Yes, if the young adult wants them involved. We will still spend part of the meeting privately with the young adult. Parents attending meetings are required to sign an acknowledgement of their role as supporter.

Yes. Payment by a parent or supporter does not make that person the client or give them automatic access to private planning information.

No. They do not need everything figured out before the meeting. Christina will help them think through their choices. It is helpful to come prepared with the full legal names and contact information (address, phone, email) for individuals they may consider naming in their plan, but this is not necessary.

Not always. Many schools require students to complete the school’s own FERPA release through a student portal. We can help identify the right next step.

Most of our planning process is conducted remotely even for clients living in the St. Louis area. We will confirm where the young adult is physically located and then coordinate appropriate signing instructions or schedule signing for a school break.

No. Our Young Adult Power of Attorney Planning is for young adults ages 18-25, whether they are in college, working, traveling, serving in the military, living independently, or simply ready to name trusted decision-makers. These plans are limited in nature to meet the short-term needs of young adults while keeping the planning process simple.

For other adults, such as those over age 25, young adults with significant assts, young adult business owners, or those who may be married or have children of their own, we recommend considering a more comprehensive estate planning package that is designed to meet long-term needs. and offer broader legal and financial protections.

Ready to take the next step?

Choose a 45-minute meeting time that works for the young adult, then schedule your tentative signing date and location. You will receive a confirmation email after booking.

We will confirm the scheduled meetings by email and send a short intake questionnaire to the young adult.

If the young adult is not yet ready to schedule, you can also reach out to us by email to get started.
